I love saving money - who doesn't? :)

I've decided to chronicle some of my savings here - mainly from coupon shopping. None of the stores in my area "double" coupons on a regular basis, so I'll never get to the really extreme savings, but I think I do pretty well. I do tend to "stockpile", but only on things my family will use, and only when I get good deals.

This blog will be a chronicle of my shopping adventures, but will also, on occasion, contain other tidbits of useful (and not so useful) information.

Today's shopping trip:

Didn't do too bad in the savings department today.  I had already matched up this week's sale ads with my stockpile of coupons, so armed with my three pre-sorted envelopes, (and of course my full supply of coupons in case I saw a deal I couldn't pass up), I had my son drive me into town.  I still can't drive because of my broken shoulder, or lift too much so having an extra set of hands is still a necessity.  We went to Walgreen's, Price Chopper, and Walmart - each for a very specific list of things.  I'll put these in three separate posts. Here's what I got, and how much was saved, and a couple of lessons learned:

Walgreen's:
  • 3 boxes Kleenex (reg $2.29 ea) $6.87 - $3.60 (Wag cpn) - $0.50 (manufac cpn) = $2.77 for 3
  • 8 Act-II popcorn singles (reg price $0.99 ea) $7.92 - $4.72 (sale price) - $1.20 (Wag cpn) = $2.00 for 8
  • 2 Nexcare bandages (sale price $2.99 ea) $5.98 - $1 (manuf cpn) = $4.98 for 2
    • plus can get rebate for $2.99 - Lesson #1 - read the rebate form - if I had gotten two different types of bandages, instead of both the same, I could have gotten rebate for both boxes.
  • 3 boxes 100 ct Splenda (sale price $2.99 ea) $8.97 - $8.97 (3 manuf cpns for $3 ea that were adjusted down to $2.99) = $0.00
    • plus got $4.00 in Register Rewards for next shopping trip
  • 3 cans chunk white tuna (reg $1.50 ea) $4.50 - $2.43 (Wag cpn) = $2.07 for 3
  • 3 candy filled Easter eggs (50% off) $5.67 - $1.50 (Wag cpns) = $4.17 for 3
  • 1 Stayfree maxi pad (sale price $2.99) $2.99 - $1 (manuf cpn) = $1.99
    • Lesson #2 - because I used the $3 register reward certificate that I got on Sunday for purchasing this same item, on this order, I couldn't get the advertised $3 reg rwds again - lesson learned - don't use register rewards on same item earned from
  • 2 other candy items - Turtles and Ghiradelli Squares (sale $3 ea) $6.00 - $2 (manuf cpns) = $4 for 2
  • 1 pkg pistachios (sale price $2.99) $2.99 - $1 (manuf cpn) = $1.99
  • 1 box envelopes (reg $1.29) $1.29 - $0.60 (Wag cpn) = $0.69
  • 2 boxes envelopes - $1.99 ea = $3.98
    • Lesson #3 - watch when coupons are ringing up.  These envelopes should have been included in the Walgreen's coupon to make them $0.69 ea.  Didn't notice until after I was home that discount wasn't given.
Total OOP, after all cpns and plus 8% tax = $27.45 (plus I have $4 in register rewards that I'll use next week) -- Total savings (sales and cpns) = $47.92   64% savings
